Yoga style

All classes include postures (asanas), breathwork (pranayama) and deep relaxation (Yoga Nidra) or meditation appropriate to the level of the class.

My holistic approach is informed by Satyananda Yoga Tradition and emphasises gradual development of each student’s potential in terms of flexibility, strength, mental quietness and emotional balance.

The Teacher

At university I began practicing at a weekly lunchtime yoga classes, then continued attending classes as I moved around the country until settling in North Yorkshire. There, in 1986 I was lucky enough to join an inspiring British Wheel of Yoga Teaching Diploma tutored by Di Kendall.

Over the years I have worked in a variety of styles, including British Wheel, Iyengar and Ashtanga, and benefited from teachers such as Muz Murray, Donnah Farhi, Mukunda Stiles Swami Vedantananda, and Swami Satyaprakash. After working with Swami Pragyamurti I was motivated to fulfil a long held dream of staying at an Indian yoga ashram.

From 1996 – 2001 most of my time was spent at Bihar School of Yoga, India or travelling within the subcontinent. At the ashram I both studied yoga and imbibed the ancient traditions. It was truly a time of “living yoga”. The daily ashram routine involved karma, bhakti, raja, hatha and aspects of gyana yoga.

Other highlights from this time include visiting ashrams in many parts of India and attending the 2001 Maha Kumbha Mela at Allahbad. At the Mela I met radiant Himalayan sages, seers, sadhus, and yogis. It was a spiritual treat and opportunity for deep personal growth. My own inner journey still continues and is supported by my practice.
